A house in a clearing on the square of a small town

A narrow plot of land for less than 75 m2 of built-up area of a house is one of those that creates its own urban space – the connecting facades line the square with the church. The rear tracts of houses, which always connect the square and the garden through the entire depth of the plot, and their backyards and gardens are already the beginning of a low suburb, quickly transition into the surrounding landscape. This situation is largely prescribed to the house..

The house is layered with pieces of matter, interspersed with pieces of space. Meanwhile, it makes its way up behind the light of the stairwell. On the side of the square, free spaces and rooms inside the mass are neatly aligned and covered in a flat facade, on the side of the courtyard they are plastic and distinct. It reflects the creation of a house by interweaving the mass of building structures and their negative footprints – the spaces left between them and the neighboring houses. Seemingly randomly placed diagonals of internal dividing walls add space to narrow plots that need it more. The large glazing of the negative spaces between the masses on the courtyard side connects the interior of the house with the terraces and the garden. The outdoor terraces are connected by an outdoor staircase (which forms the natural roof of the indoor staircase), thus creating a kind of "outdoor interior". The facade to the square reflects the same volumetric principle transposed into the area. Peaceful, connected to the urban context. Completion, unification and completion of one side of the square.
The house was nominated for the Old Prague Society Award for New Architecture in a Historical Environment.
