Open-space solution of an apartment in a panel building

The basic positive characteristic of a flat in a block of flats is that it doesn't dictate aesthetics, it just provides space. If you want, you can shamelessly build your own world within it. In this project everything could be demolished, except for a bundle of pipes covered with a laminate liner in an empty corner. This space of fifty square meters offered the world to a young couple and their children, one was already on the way during the construction. The awareness of openness to future solutions and changes remains present so that the space can develop and transform together with the children growing up in it, and their parents who will grow old in it.

A simple floor plan could be designed due to the lack of interior bearing walls. The space is divided into nine areas, the central one being the glass bathroom. Some areas around it can be separated by large sliding doors. The entrance, the children's area and the area around the bed can, when closed, act as a real hallway, children's play room and bedroom. The rest of the space remains connected, a living room with a kitchen. If all the doors are open and hidden in the hollow walls of the bathroom, the light from the windows on the two opposite sides almost eliminates the shadow, and the common room expands into an entire open space. As the children grow up, the partition between the bed and the children's room can become a solid wall.
